Restaurants open even in winter in Menorca
Everything closed in Menorca in winter? Not at all! Many people think that after the summer the island falls asleep, but locals and true connoisseurs know that this is exactly when its most authentic soul awakens. That’s why, from Mahón to Ciutadella, there are really many restaurants open even in winter.
Places ready to pamper you with genuine dishes, relaxed atmospheres and that warm Menorcan hospitality that can brighten even the windiest days.
Whether you’re in the mood for traditional cuisine, a lively tapas bar, a bistro with a cosmopolitan feel, Italian pizzerias and restaurants, Mexican or Indian food, the island is full of surprises, especially off-season.
We have selected more than fifty places, most of them open from Thursday to Sunday.
Some take holidays in January and February but there are plenty of exceptions. Like Taps Can Avelino in Mahón, for instance, which successfully keeps working 6 days a week all year round.

Set 23 | Gastronomic bodega and restaurant
From July 2025, at number 125 of Rovellada de Dalt, in the former Bar Viena — once the first bar in Mahón — Set 23 opened its doors. The name has a precise meaning for Jordi and Nil, father and son: it is the day they separate for the first time after 20 years. Jordi leaves for a gastronomic journey around the world that lasts until the end of 2024, while Nil continues working as a mechanic in Barcelona. Later, they reunite, decide to move to Menorca and find a small venue (maximum 30 guests, therefore booking is required) where Jordi offers signature Catalan cuisine with fusion touches, oriental and South American influences. Nil runs the dining room and prepares excellent cocktails. An 8-course tasting menu for just €23. Positive reviews and word of mouth are their greatest satisfaction. Open daily from 12:00–16:00 and 19:30–23:30; Sundays and Mondays 12:00–16:00. Closed for holidays from January 13th to 31st.

Since 2003, Nuria Pendás and Daniel Mora have been writing important chapters in Menorca’s culinary scene, earning a place among the “Michelin Guide Spain recommended restaurants”, and many wonder: “What is missing to obtain a Michelin Star?”. Because many say Sa Pedrera des Pujol deserves it. Vegetables from their own garden, genuine zero-kilometre ingredients for stuffed olives and “coca de sobrasada”; red prawn brioche; crab ragù, sea urchins and prawns with nettle emulsion; tuna, almost raw, enhanced with vinegar and a delicious marinade… Not to be missed is the “formatjada Wellington”, more bread than puff pastry, a traditional island recipe. Quitapenas Cocina Esquina
The passionate gastronomic adventure of Cristina, Italian, and Gordon, Argentinian, continues here — I found them in the kitchen chopping a mountain of onions for their empanadas without shedding a single tear! Step into their place on Avenida San Pau in Sant Lluís and you’re greeted with smiles, kindness, aromas, and authentic Italian flavors to savor on the spot or to order. I tasted Cristina’s homemade meat ravioli, and they will be our dinner on December 24th: we’re among those who celebrate on Christmas Eve, while the 25th is spent nibbling on leftovers in front of the fire. Back to Quitapenas: the menu includes pasta — carbonara, amatriciana, ragù, tomato, pesto, ravioli, tortelloni, plin ravioli, tagliatelle — as well as mains like braised beef, Milanese cutlet, vitello tonnato, roast chicken, empanadas, vegetables, and desserts. They are open from 10:30 to 15:30, closed on Wednesdays, with dinners available by reservation. They offer takeaway and delivery (through the allavoy_mahon app) in Sant Lluís, Es Castell, and Mahón. The restaurant of the (closed) Hotel Sant Ignasi offers Mediterranean and Menorcan cuisine in a refined atmosphere on the edge of town (Ronda Nord S/N): every dish, from starter to dessert, tells a story of flavours, balance, freshness and surprising yet harmonious combinations, all signed by Miquel Sánchez. Open from Thursday to Sunday for lunch only, 13:00–15:00. At the time of writing, holiday dates have not yet been set.
Surprised? I am, a little – and in any case, if you know of any other (quality) places open in winter in Menorca, let us know or write to us: we’ll add them to this guide, which I hope will be useful to many, especially to those who think there’s nothing open in Menorca in winter. And if you find any inaccuracies… please be patient! Here in Menorca, some people decide their holidays at the very last moment.
